How to plan a wedding: a month-by-month plan

Where to start, when to book the venue and at what point the decorator joins.

A wedding is not built from a list of vendors but from a sequence of decisions. First the date and the city, then the venue, and only then the concept, decor and programme.

Nine months out, the best venues and hosts get booked. Six months out, the concept is approved and the decor goes into production. Three months out: the final estimate, the timeline and the first dance rehearsal.

The most common mistake is starting with details. Stationery and napkin colours are a two-week decision; the venue and the team decide everything else.
